Access point (AP)

Access points send or receive electronic messages

An access point is a central part of the PEPPOL network and connects users (buyers or sellers) via other access points that can receive and send messages.

A traditional EDI operator (VAN) often also provides the additional service of an access point, but there are also system providers that offer a built-in access point in their solutions. There are also companies/organizations that have their own access points.

Access points have simpler addressing and clearer agreed-upon rules for what and how things can communicate compared to traditional operator-controlled communication. Between access points, predefined transport profiles are used for the exchange of information between senders and receivers of messages transmitted within the PEPPOL network.

Since September 1, 2012, PEPPOL has been managed by the non-profit organization OPENPEPPOL. At Viaduct, we are active members of OPENPEPPOL, providing access point services and specializing in connections and formats for this concept.
