Peppol

Peppol originally stands for Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line and is a solution for electronic procurement developed at the European level to simplify e-commerce and e-procurement. The concept is now spreading to more private actors. Peppol, as a term, is not only known for public sector trade. They have also redesigned the logo to have a more international appeal.

The Peppol concept offers an alternative solution for:

  • Common standards for various messages in the procurement process, such as price lists, orders, and invoices
  • Common technical protocols for electronic communication
  • Common registries that make it easy to find business partners connected to Peppol
  • Common rules for collaboration between business partners and their respective operators
  • An organization at the European level with regional anchoring to develop, manage, and provide support for Peppol

Currently, Peppol is strongly established in the Nordic countries, especially in Norway, but other European countries are gradually adopting this concept as well. The driving force primarily comes from the public sector, which, through EU directives, requires the implementation of the concept in each member state.

Peppol BIS Billing 3.0

A new law regarding electronic invoices and public sector transactions came into effect in Europe on April 1, 2019.

Peppol simplifies the implementation of electronic communication between parties both within each member country and between parties in different countries.
