The term e-invoice is used differently in various contexts, but here we define it as an electronic invoice that is sent or received during e-invoicing.
Often, the e-invoice is the first step towards starting to work with electronic commerce. An important distinction to remember is that an e-invoice refers to some type of EDI file, which means that a PDF invoice is not an e-invoice.
Advantages of e-invoicing
Today, the use of e-invoices has reduced the number of paper invoices, making it a more environmentally friendly option. Using e-invoicing also tends to save money. Above all, it saves time as the process becomes simpler and more automated. Additionally, transaction costs are usually lower than postage costs for paper invoices. Businesses that send large volumes of invoices or work with many different parties, customers, and suppliers have much to gain from invoicing electronically.
EDI-invoice
In Viaduct’s Edionet concept, electronic invoices are sent via EDI in various formats, such as… EDIFACT. Sometimes the term EDI invoice is used when referring to this type of electronic communication.
